“Great location, very good restaurant on top of the hotel”

Reviewed on 04/07/2016

Hotel is in a great location in the Old San Juan. Great for before or after the cruise. Room was very clean. Restaurant on top of the hotel is very good for breakfast and for dinner. Staff are ok, but Rafael is above other. He was very helpful and polite.

“Rooftop Bar”

Good STRONG drinks and the bartender, Marco, was awesome. Great view of the port from the roof, FYI it is in walking distance from the ships. Last in the mojito tasting bar hop. Hubby had the tacos and he said they were delicious.

“A good pre-cruise place to stay”

Reviewed on 03/02/2016

We stayed with our family pre-cruise; we had made arrangements with Juan last April already, and everything was ready for us as planned. The hotel staff is wonderful- so helpful and willing to assist in any way possible. The hotel itself is old, with quirky A/C, but the rooms are clean ( very important!). The flavor of Old San Juan is very evident in this place. It is a great base from which to explore the old town- you can walk to all of the attractions.

“Night in OSJ”

Location, location, location! All within walking or free tram distance. Vibrant and safe area of old San Juan. Easy walk to ferry for Bacardi tour. Hotel organized our wonderful day trip tour to Rainforest at 1/3 price of cruise ship excursion $20 taxi for 4 to Pan Am cruise ship Pier. Awesome food on roof top restaurant (yummy mofongo) with a nightly 2:1 Happy Hour (3-5pm) - great Pina Coladas and Mojitos with excellent staff & service. Room clean, comfortable with fridge and free wifi. Desk staff friendly, helpful and organized for our after-midnight arrival.

“Not the Ritz, but nice....”

Great location, good price, great for pre-cruise people... It had internet that worked. Rooms are smallish, it's very clean, just not fancy at all, but the people there are VERY nice and you won't need a car to see ALL of Old San Juan from there. We did a pre- cruise night and enjoyed the Christmas lights of the city.

“A wonderful place to stay!”

We selected the Milano partly by default, from a short list of hotel options available in a resort+cruise package, and we are extremely glad that we did so. Before traveling we had called and then emailed a question or two based on some reviews we had read, and had received quick and courteous replies from a "Juan." Turns out this was Juan San Emeterio himself, the hotel's owner-manager. Both Juan and his entire staff are lovely people, and we feel as though we have a new home away from home in San Juan. We stayed five days, then took a Caribbean cruise, and returned for an additional night before flying home the next day. They even threw a street party for us! Well, in truth it was day 3 of a 4-day Culinary Festival, but our street was one of the main locations, and we had a ball walking up and down enjoying the food, drink, and party atmosphere. When we left the next day, we both agreed that although we had been quite ready to leave the cruise, despite how enjoyable it had been, we could easily have spent an additional two weeks in Old San Juan--and the Milano is one of the main reasons.

“Great Service and Location”

The Hotel Milano greets the visitor cordially and has very comfortable rooms that are well furnished with a TV and a refrigerator. I give the hotel a top rating for its location on Fortaleza Street, just a few blocks from the Governor's Mansion in historic "Old San Juan." It is ideally situated to visit the sights by day and enjoy the night--life in the evenings. A plentiful breakfast at the roof-top restaurant prepares you for the day ahead. This fine hotel (no pool) is ably run by an ex-Cuban who I found most attentive to the needs of his guests.

We stayed for only one night. came in day early before cruise. walked to pier, to the local sights, ate at the Parrot Club which is in walking distance. Hotel was clean, bed comfortable. breakfast was a little lacking, but view was nice from roof top terrace, People very helpful. would recommend it and would go back again.

Special Place”

We have stayed at Hotel Milano before and wanted to return. It is located right in the heart of Old San Juan, close to the great forts and ancient walls, in walking distance of restaurants and night life. From Milano you can go to the paseo, the beautiful walk around the old city, at the foot of the Spanish walls; do not miss that. Go at sunset or early evening when the lights shine across the harbor. There is a beautiful breakfast terrace with a view across the roofs of the old city toward the harbor. The price of the room was very reasonable, and everyone there was friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.

A BIG Thank YOU from friends in Toronto!

Hello Juan, my name is Sandra Spencer and I emailed you back in February as you helped me solidify my hotel booking for a cruise vacation that I was going on with 6 other guests. With your great hospitality and responsiveness to my questions and requests, I couldn't refuse and my friends and I had the opportunity to stay at your hotel on July 14 & 15. Your hotel is exactly what I saw on your website, it felt like I had already been there before. Extremely clean and a great atmosphere to be in. We were greated by Rafael and he took care of all my needs and wants. He is a wonderful person indeed. Your breakfast staff ladies including José (I believe that was his name) was so warm to us and helpful... I have nothing but good things to say about our stay at your hotel. We even bought a couple of your books as some of us started reading it on our trip. IBefore we left your hotel we felt we already knew you just by reading bits of your book. You are truly and wondeful and spirtual person and we loved how you expressed the importance of family. I wished we had the opportunity to have met you.

Thank you very much for giving us your place to stay at and I hope I will be able to come back again very soon. I have planned another cruise trip next year and I will definitely be in touch with you in the near future.

All the very best to you and your staff and I will highly recommend your hotel to my friends, family and even my travel agent. So thanks again! Smile

Please say hi to Rafael from the friends in Toronto!

Sandra Spencer

The Cheap, but Cheerful Hotel: Hotel Milano (307 Fortaleza St. (877-729-9050, from $85) is a wonderful addition to the scene; more like an Italian pensione, its rooms are clean, basic and inexpensive.

Concierge.com :
This small, cozy hotel in the center of Old San Juan will simply enchant you with its beautiful classic architecture and elegant ambiance. Its location is definitely one of its major assets—the Milano is situated in the heart of the city on La Fortaleza Street, within walking distance to everything in the district. It sits in a restored colonial building, and offers excellent, personalized service. The Panorama Terrace Bar & Latin Grill is located within the Milano.
